Memory 21 | Skill 06
Memory 21 / Trivial Negative
"I hope the conversation was worth it?" (LO ch. 17)
Day 228, Nimue/Odile. Miniature goblet + vial. Three uses.
Silena dies, impersonating Clarisse, but not before she admits to them that she's been the spy for the camp for the whole time because Luke promised that he wouldn't hurt Charles Beckendorf. Annabeth is completely shaken by both the betrayal by Silena and the fact that Luke would do such a thing.
Finally, Annabeth is the one that pulls Silena's dead body away from Clarisse and closes her eyes, reminding everyone that they have one more person they need to keep fighting for. Clarisse insists that Silena's a hero; no one disagrees.
Clarisse guards the Empire State Building with the blessing of Ares surrounding her; she's completely unstoppable. Meanwhile, the rest of the crew checks on the wounded -- there are a lot of them. They're told to go up to Olympus to check on the final defenses.
They cheer up some wounded -- and see some dead friends. They keep walking. They get to the throne room of Olympus and there's Rachel, with Pandora's Jar; Percy seems freaked out and tells her to put it down. She finally gives it to him, but Annabeth recognizes that he needs some alone time and so she and Grover go around to scout out defenses. They come back, and Percy does this:
THEN PERCY SITS ON HIS FATHER'S THRONE AND ALMOST GETS FRIED TO DEATH.
Effects:
• Unlocked: Knowledge of the exact whereabouts of Olympus. It had been mentioned in passing before but she didn't really believe it until this. :x
• Unlocked: Some more awful dreams about war and death!! YEAH!
• Unlocked: Knowing she's seen her teammates die before.
• Unlocked: Knowledge that you should never, ever sit on a god's throne.
• New knowledge about Pandora's jar! RIGHT AFTER HER CONVERSATION WITH PANDORA TOO.
• New knowledge about Hestia, about how satyrs reincarnate, about Luke's underhanded plots.
+ 100 desire to protect her friends.
+ 1000 LUKE FEELINGS OH MY GOD. Why. Whyyyyy.
- 100 respect for Luke. Which will have a big impact on her! This is a really important memory for this, which is something I totally forgot about. But the fact that she admitted it is going to change a lot of the ways in which she receives other memories. Earlier ones might even be dreadfully painful to get back after receiving so many bad future ones.

Skill 06 / Special
Basic Home Crafts Knowledge (weaving and sewing)
Day 227, Chance. Foil-Wrapped chocolate coin.
Annabeth can do basic hand-sewing now, as well as weaving! The "special" part of this comes from the fact that it is actually magic; her sewing will be straighter and weaving tighter than most beginners at the same level.
People who see magic will be able to see magic being woven/sewn into the materials that she's using, but it will disappear shortly afterwards, as she's not actually weaving it into the cloth she's just using it to speed up the process and give her an advantage over the learning curve.

"Percy," Annabeth said quietly. "You were right about Luke." It was the first time she'd spoken since Silena Beauregard's death. She kept her eyes fixed on the elevator floors as they blinked into the magical numbers: 400, 450, 500. Grover and I exchanged glances.
"Annabeth," I said. "I'm sorry—"
"You tried to tell me." Her voice was shaky. "Luke is no good. I didn't believe you until . . . until I heard how he'd used Silena. Now I know. I hope you're happy."
"That doesn't make me happy."
She put her head against the elevator wall and wouldn't look at me.

"Hestia," I said, "I give this to you as an offering."
The goddess tilted her head. "I am the least of the gods. Why would you trust me with this?"
"You're the last Olympian," I said."And the most important."
"And why is that, Percy Jackson?"
"Because Hope survives best at the hearth," I said. "Guard it for me, and I won't be tempted to give up again." The goddess smiled. She took the jar in her hands and it began to glow. The hearth fire burned a little brighter.
"Well done, Percy Jackson," she said. "May the gods bless you. "
"We're about to find out." I looked at Annabeth and Grover. "Come on, guys." I marched toward my father's throne.
THEN PERCY SITS ON HIS FATHER'S THRONE AND ALMOST GETS FRIED TO DEATH.
"If you'd sat there any longer," Annabeth said, "you would've spontaneously combusted. I hope the conversation was worth it?"
Moo, said the Ophiotaurus in his sphere of water.
"We'll find out soon," I said.
Just then the doors of the throne room swung open. Thalia marched in. Her bow was snapped in half and her quiver was empty.
"You've got to get down there," she told us. "The enemy is advancing. And Kronos is leading them."
